A Tale of Two Weekends

Well, March has been a pretty eventful month for the Stanislavs! With two birthdays (I turned 30 last week), a trip to Minnesota, and more sickness than we normally have in an entire year, we are ready for a relaxing week.

Two weekends ago we took advantage of our spring break and an extra day off for Mady and headed up to Minnesota for a mini-vacation with the Stanislav clan. We got to meet our sweet new nephew, Bennett Gray (who is one super chill dude!), spend quality time with the family, swim, eat, and shop (Outlet malls, IKEA and the Mall of America. Mady got to experience the American Girl store, we got house stuff...win/win). A good time was had by all.

Grandpa and Grandma provided some water guns. Drew was a fan. This expression was on his face quite often.

Jack was okay in the pool as long as he could cling to me. He preferred sitting on my lap by the hot tub.

Mady perfected the cannonball.

Graham swam laps with his floaties.

We were a little nervous the whole time we were in MN because the Tuesday before we left I took Jack to the doctor and he was diagnosed with strep. Thankfully, none of the rest of us got strep, but Mady developed a pretty nasty cough while we were gone and was pretty run down (though not enough to stay out of the pool!). But we made it through and got back home, thinking we were in the clear. Alas, we weren't so lucky. Drew went in on Wednesday and was diagnosed with bronchitis. Which got much worse by Thursday night and resulted in another trip to the doctor on Friday, along with his now-coughing little brother. (Can I just take a minute to say that I'm glad our doctor is less than a mile away instead of a 40 minute drive to Muncie? Sorry, Upland friends;-) ) We left with a diagnosis of RSV and instructions to do nebulizer treatments three times a day (a drag). Then Jack woke up on Saturday morning with a rash all over his back and tummy. It continued to grow into full-fledged hives as the day went on. The poor little man was covered! Apparently, this was a delayed reaction to the amoxicillin he was on for strep. It came on day 10 of the prescription. Who knew? But he was a trooper and it's starting to clear up.

In true Jack fashion, he's still sporting a smile.

Both boys are feeling better, though all three still have nasty sounding coughs. But I think we are on the upswing. Phew! Here's hoping for a relaxing, uneventful weekend ahead (with a trip to see Divergent thrown in for good measure!)
